God Will Reveal Himself to the Humble

In light of this teaching, consider the following words of our Master and Lord: “At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight. All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”* (Matthew 11:25-30)

It is the heart of God to reveal Himself to His saints, and He has chosen to reveal Himself to the babes—the dependant ones, the humble ones. Jesus Himself received all things from the Father in just this way—being lowly. He too reveals the Father to whom He wishes. And He too has chosen the humble babes to be the recipients of His revelation. He invites us here to learn from Him this disposition of humility. Then and only then can we receive the revelation that God seeks to give us. And only then can we be properly guided into the perfect path of obedience that Jesus came to lead us into.

A babe is also full of faith—trusting the parent to take care of it. We too must be humble and full of faith. We must trust in the provision that the Father has provided for our spiritual needs. He has provided His very own Spirit. God is so good to us to give us His very Spirit to lead us in this path of obedience. Let us abandon our best thinking and bow in deep humility and dependence upon the Spirit of God who alone can lead us into the perfect obedience that God requires.
