I one time lived in sin and did not know my Lord; With all the worldly things my heart was in accord; I heard the gospel preached, so rugged, stern, and true: I turned and said, “Goodbye, old world, I’m through with you.”
Refrain: Oh, glory, praise the Lord!—with God’s own chosen few, Whatever be the cost, I’m surely going through; And soon my Lord will come, His promise must be true; Then we shall rise and say, “Goodbye, old world, I’m through!”
My old companions sought to turn my soul away, And fierce temptations wrought, alluring me astray; My old friends tried in vain the old life to renew: I should my head and said, “No more for me—I’m through.”
Now soon my Lord will come, the trumpet loud will blow; He’ll catch His waiting bride—to meet Him we shall go! Then as I leave the earth with all the chosen few, I’ll cast one glance and shout, “Old world, goodbye, I’m through!”
