To make this still plainer and more comprehensive, a preacher is to be so filled with Christ and have the Spirit of discernment that he will never let a soul up from the altar until he knows that soul has been forgiven of God.

We say we want to be like Christ.... But what do we mean by being like Christ? Are we not in danger of getting into our vision of it, merely an easy kind of life, a gentle piety, a dainty charity, a fashionable holiness, a pleasing service?

Brothers and sisters in Christ, let us keep in our hearts a love for the truth and the crucified way, lest we be led astray by any of the deceivers around us.... Those who get grounded and settled in the truth will not be blown about by different winds of doctrine.

The best convincer that we are "the seed which the Lord hath blessed" is the actual fruit of salvation, the real deliverance of men from the power of sin, and the manifestation of the virtues of a holy life. Aim directly at getting men and women saved.

It is human to look and crave for something in sight that will help the Lord out. In time of need, if we can only find a little of something for God to begin on, we seem to be much better satisfied.

That is the way to look at the Scriptures and understand the thoughts of God—to see in them the face of Love, shining through and through. Not ideas, nor doctrines, but Jesus Himself as the Life and Source and sustaining Presence of all our life.

The burden of this message is to express the... necessity of the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit to bring about this type of obedience that Jesus came to produce in us, and a solemn warning against any attempt of the flesh to fulfill this calling.

My nervous mind immediately thought of our car. Had I locked the door?... It's not that I begrudge homeless people of a warm house or good food, but I suspect that they choose their lifestyle and somehow want to be unclean.

I prayed earnestly that God would direct me where I should live and labor next. I was plainly directed to a certain congregation, and it was in that place that I first plainly and clearly saw the church of God functioning as it should.

We may say that each one is actually God's purchased possession, although still held by the enemy. We must through the prayer of faith, claim and take for God, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, that which is rightfully His.

There are many manifestations of the self life which are not clearly sinful, but neither are they truly Christlike. ...this middle zone of self activity... must be... crucified in order to reach deep abiding union with God, where there is none of self and all of Christ Jesus.

Our getting to heaven depends upon the life we live here. If I owned the whole world I would rather lose it all than to miss heaven. But, except we live the true Christian life, this beautiful happy, eternal heaven will never be ours.

My brother arrived, and I faltered between being fascinated and being enraged. At one point, disgusted by the lack of ability to "play"... and irritated by his crying, I earnestly and sincerely suggested to my parents, "Let's take that baby and throw him in the river!"
